Thirty-seven year old director, Jonathan A. Levine, who first hit the directorial scene in 2005, helps recreate Marion's world for the silver screen. Though post-Apocalyptic, it's a world full of heart. Literally. Levine won the Audience Award for Dramatic Film in 2008 at Sundance for his semi-autobiographical flick, THE WACKNESS. Well-educated at the prestigious (and pricey) Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts and Brown University, infamous for an abundance of "genius" alumni being recipients of McArthurs and Guggenheim, Levine completed his MFA at the American Film Institute. His first feature film was 50/50 in 2011.
Nicholas Hoult (inset) is just six days older than Taylor Swift (hey, Taylor, he could be your next love interest!!!). Hoult looks just like an average 23-year old, too--tall, lanky, with those famous brows that the audience first fell in love with in ABOUT A BOY. So loved that 2002 film directed by the Weitz brothers! Hoult stole the show, despite sharing the screen with seasoned actors like Rachel Weisz, Hugh Grant, and Toni Collette. Hoult is now cast in the XMen: FIRST CLASS franchise as Beast; he can next be seen in that role in 2014. You can also see him in JACK THE GIANT SLAYER, opening in March 2013!
Hoult's co-star is Aussie-talent, Teresa Palmer, named after Mother Teresa. Despite celebrating her 27th birthday this month, Palmer looks like she's all of 17. Gotta love those Aussie genes!!! Her role in I AM NUMBER FOUR was impressive; this reviewer even hoped for a sequel. Palmer plays the fiesty daughter of the military man who organized a survivor camp after the zombie apocalypse, Colonel Grigio (like the wine...), played by John Malkovich.
Rob Corddry is a long-time favorite; not only are we the same age, but Corddry grew up right down the road! His work on the Jon Stewart show was fabulously funny but his roles in films like HOT TUB TIME MACHINE scream outloud that this funny-man has serious funny-talents. Corddry was perfect in WARM BODIES. Looking forward to more like it!
The $30-million film has grossed more than $45-million at the Box Office. Not bad for a zombie flick. George Romero would be proud!!!
Though certainly slow at times, WARM BODIES, provides a look into our not-so-distant future. Isolated by technology, society has become nothing but a hungry, mindless horde. All it takes to change that is personal connection. According to WARM BODIES, that kind of connection can even bring the walking dead back to life!
On the Housel-scale, WARM BODIES earns a healthy 8.5/10! Nicholas Hoult is certainly #PopCultureProfessor APPROVED! And so is WARM BODIES....
