Born in Thibodaux, Louisiana, Chamberlain moved to Lafayette in 1993. Kody seemed to be so at ease with the aspiring artists and writers in our audience, I almost wondered if he was a teacher, too. Turns out, I wasn't wrong. Kody is a public speaker. One of the great loves of his life is to go to university and college campuses and teach students how to tap into their creativity and use it to move forward in whatever career they choose. Sound familiar, Housel-alums? Yes, it would seem Kody and I are cosmic twins separated at-Earth. Although technically, I'm a tad bit older...just a tad. And that's all I'm prepared to admit....
Chamberlain attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he earned a BFA in Advertising Design. This advertising-exec-turned-graphic-novelist gave it all up in 2004 to pursue his love of the comic arts full time...and according to Chamberlain, he's never looked back since.
I've always admired people who can walk away from a lucrative career to pursue what they love. It's a big risk, because oftentimes, the things we love don't always pay the bills. And yet, Kody Chamberlain successfully made that leap. And his audience is awfully glad he did.
With rave-reviews on Amazon and a solid 5/5 stars all around, Chamberlain's SWEETS, published in 2011 by Image Comics, is as delicious as the pralines its serial killer leaves behind. The story follow Detective Curt Delatte, who must try to track down his sweet-toothed killer after Hurricane Katrina washed most of the evidence away. Delatte has just buried his daughter when the murderous chaos ensues. And there are more twists and turns then you can shake a stick at! Newsarama calls Chamberlain's SWEETS "magic" through his "care and craftsmanship" and Crave compares SWEETS to a Tarantino film. As the #PopCultureProfessor, with 20 years experience in writing and literature, I have to agree. SWEETS is a Southern-fried treat you can't afford not to sample. The art combined with the rush of the storyline keeps your blood pumping...you won't want to put it down! I know I didn't.
SWEETS practically begs for the silver screen. Hollywood, you listenin'? Who dat? KODY CHAMBERLAIN, BITCHES!
