Max Bowen has been in radio for nearly a decade. A journalist in Greater Boston, Max has had the opportunity to interview some amazing guests on his show, Citywide Blackout, including Giorgio A. Tsoulakos, the Ithaca College alum best known for his eccentric hairstyle and theories surrounding extraterrestrials on the television show, Ancient Aliens.
Max and Citywide Blackout were part of the WEMF family before taking on the podcast world. Max thinks that, one day, it's possible podcasters will be akin to journalists. Max first got into radio while studying journalism abroad in the Philippines. And it was love at first mic! Max went on to work for stations in Boston, like WCAP, before his tenure at WEMF.
Max certainly showed off his interview skills when he recently had me on his show. His professionalism is impressive, too. We had done a test recording that could have been aired but Max made the effort and took the time to re-record so we could get it right for the audience.
What was Max grilling me about???
I have the honour of working an event happening in February for Boston Scifi Film Festival's 45th (BSFF) at the Hayden Planetarium, Museum of Science (MoS) in Boston. Max got the exclusive on the NASA merch I'll be giving out to a few of our lucky audience members thanks to my candidacy in the next phase of SIRIUS. Friend and fellow comedian, Ken Reid (TV Guidance Counselor), will join me as we co-host a screening of Joss Whedon's Serenity on the dome, along with a showing of the night sky. Tickets are $15 each and benefit the Museum and BSFF--seats are limited so it's recommended fans buy tickets online instead of the night of the event (11 Feb):

Max and I totally geeked out about characters from the Firefly and Serenity Whedonverse like River, played by Summer Glau, and Shepherd, played by the late Ron Glass--both pictured here at the last Comic Con Glass attended before he passed. I was lucky enough to be the MC at that event and had opportunity to interview Glass and Glau in front of a live audience of 3,000 or so screaming fans.
Fair warning: There aren't 3,000 seats at the Planetarium, so Max used his podcaster-prowess to spread the word. We also talked about shows like Supernatural, Cowboy Bebop, Santa Clarita Diet, Modern Family, new Netflix drops in 2020 like Dracula, V Wars and Daybreak, as well as the awesome soundtracks enjoyed by fans of the Whedonverse.
When Max first got into radio, he admits that it was all about the music. But his take on radio, and now podcasts, began to evolve as pop culture did. Max now interviews not only musicians, like The Army of Broken Toys, but artists, writers and cosplayers from places like Granite State Comic Con.
