People can be extraordinarily cruel. You can be the absolute best person in the world--thoughtful, considerate, kind, polite, ethical, professional--and something about you, usually something far beyond your control, will be held against you. Everything from your smile to your eye color, your hair color, skin color, belief system, where you live...heck, even your bra size contributes to some opinion or other about who you are. While it's true that we need to partner with people to prosper, it's important to remember that the most crucial person to have on your side is YOU.
Anyone who holds aspects of your physicality against you is a fool. They may be rich fools or fools in positions of power but they're still fools. And, you don't need fools in your life. However, you do need people who are proactive (as opposed to reactive). Smart folks are proactive--positive thinkers/solution-seekers who never prioritize problems over people.
Bias is part of the human equation. If you're vulnerable in some way, you'll be victimized by it. Those who use assumptions or lies to hurt your life are willing participants in adult-bullying (showing symptoms of multiple pathologies synonymous with the Dark Triad). In the meantime, you still have to live in the world, even amidst the resistance prejudicial thought can bring.
So, what do you do? How do you handle negative people and their overall bad attitudes???
The easy answer:
SMILE.
Yup, smile your face off. And, keep smiling! As we say in the entertainment biz, "The show must go on!"
While the inequities of this world are hard to understand, the best thing any of us can do to combat injustice is continue moving forward. That means you can't let the "haters" win. The moment you stop smiling, the people who caused you pain win, and win big.
Rewarding negative behaviour is NEVER an option. When a person shows you their true colours, you can't even flinch. Just keep smiling....
Someone discards you? SMILE!
Someone judges you unfairly? SMILE!
Someone hurts you, your reputation, your family??? SMILE. And, never, ever stop.
Being brave means putting on a smile, and refusing to take it off--no matter what happens.
Losing your temper gives "haters" a win they don't deserve. However, YOU do deserve a win. And if you've been treated badly, give yourself the upper hand by not allowing ANYONE to disturb your inner peace. The happiness you have inside you that makes you loving, sweet, kind, considerate, generous, compassionate--that's untouchable. Until and unless you stop smiling.
You have to be the fiercest guardian of your most precious possession: Your heart.
When someone tries to hurt you (or your heart), your best weapon is your smile. A smile is a bearing of teeth--it's primal. Many see it as a threat, too.
There's nothing more frightening to the insecure cowards of this world than someone who has the guts to smile and mean it.
Keep smiling and live a life of triumph, victory and success. Never let the negativity of others distract you from creating happiness, joy, and abundant prosperity for yourself and others.
If you don't fight for you, who will???
I believe in you. But if you want to effect positive change in your own life, YOU have to believe, too.
